GREEN SKILLS AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT HUB

🌱 Green Skills & Agro-Tourism Hub
Empowering Youth for Food Security, Climate Resilience & Sustainable Livelihoods

About the Project

At Touch The Slum, we are committed to transforming lives through innovative, youth-led solutions. Our Green Skills and Agro-Tourism Hub is an ambitious new initiative designed to tackle the interconnected challenges of youth unemployment, food insecurity, malnutrition, poverty, and climate change. Located at our two-acre Mikisa Farm in Kikyusa-Buzibwera, Bamunanika District, the hub will serve as a model center for practical, sustainable agriculture training and eco-tourism development.

This initiative empowers vulnerable youth—particularly those from slum communities and underserved rural areas—by equipping them with modern, space-efficient farming skills and green entrepreneurship tools that promote income generation, environmental conservation, and climate adaptation.

Why This Matters

Young people in slums and rural areas often face:

  • High unemployment rates
  • Limited access to nutritious food
  • Poor waste management
  • Lack of space for farming
  • Limited knowledge of climate-smart agriculture

We believe in a future where these challenges are met with practical, hands-on solutions that create real opportunities and foster environmental stewardship.

Our Goal

To establish a Green Skills Training & Agro-Tourism Hub that empowers at-risk youth through sustainable agriculture, environmental education, and green enterprise development.

Project Objectives

  • Build a Green Skills Training Center at Mikisa Farm.
  • Train at least 300 youth—with a focus on out-of-school youth from slums and rural communities.
  • Promote climate-smart agriculture techniques, including:
  • Vertical gardening
  • Raised beds
  • Sack & tyre gardening
  • Container gardening
  • Composting and upcycling
  • Develop an eco-tourism experience with flowered gazebos for retreats, educational tours, and community visits.
  • Partner with institutions and companies through CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives.
  • Replicate skills in urban slums, schools, and other rural communities.
  • Foster the creation of sustainable youth-led green enterprises.
